The Borough of Wharton Hometown Heroes Banner Program is designed to honor and recognize residents and family members of Wharton who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
The Program will display weather resistant, double sided, vinyl banners featuring the service member’s photo, name, branch of service, and years of service on Borough light poles throughout town. Placement of the banners will be at the Borough’s discretion. Banners will be approximately 18” x 36" in size. Phase I of this project will be in 2026 and will accept only the first 40 applications. These banners will be on display from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. Phase II of the program will reopen in 2027 for additional applications.
Please submit only one honoree per form. While you may include additional information on your application, only certain information will be included on the banners at the Borough’s discretion. Applications are to be submitted online, and you will be notified if your submission was accepted and the photo was in the correct format. Once your application is approved, you will be contacted to submit your $55 banner fee in person at the Wharton Borough Municipal Building, located at 10 Robert Street, Wharton, NJ. Payments must be made within 3 days of approval in order to be finalized. Only cash or checks made payable to the Borough of Wharton will be accepted. Submissions after April 24, 2026 will not be accepted.

The Borough of Wharton is now accepting applications for Summer Recreation Program Director and Summer Recreation Program Assistant Director-
SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM DIRECTOR – The Borough of Wharton in Morris County is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and well-rounded individual for a Summer Recreation Director position. Experience working with children and Adult & Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required. A background investigation will also be completed. This is a temporary position for the 2026 Summer Recreation Program. The salary range is between $8,500 and $10,000 based on experience. The Director is responsible for planning the program and running the program for approximately 100 children ranging from age 5 - 8th grades from Monday, June 29th through Friday, August 14th. Summer Recreation runs Monday-Friday from 9am – 12pm during that time period. The Director is responsible for managing all other Summer Recreation staff members as well. Bagged Yard Waste pick up begins on Monday, April 6th and runs every Monday, except holidays, until November 23rd. Check your calendar for exact dates. Free yard waste bags for Wharton Residents are available at the Recycling Center during their regular hours.
Please note:
Curbside pick up of loose leaves begins October 19th & runs through December 4th. There are no set dates for pick up. Please place your leaves at the curb without blocking sidewalks or crosswalks and at least 7ft from any storm drain. Do not put anything other than leaves in the pile.

On July 18, 2025 the groundbreaking was held for Wharton's newest park, the Fields at Orchard Mine. This will be located on North Main Street right by the American Legion.

Every year the Water Department publishes a drinking water quality report. This report is designed to inform you about the water that is delievered from the Borough. The goal is to provide residents with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We continually make efforts to improve the water treatment process and to protect our water resources.
